Atrium Smoke Management System Design
نویسنده
چکیده
In large-volume spaces such as atria and covered malls, smoke management systems are often an important aspect of fire protection, with their primary goal being to ensure that the impact of smoke and heat on occupants is not life threatening (NFPA 92B1). This involves keeping the height of the smoke layer above the highest level of occupancy for a defined period, longer than the expected time to evacuate the building.

Design an optimized model to improve natural ventilation thorough the roof orientation
Natural ventilation is among those effective methods that is useful in hot dry climates. One of its important uses is in the atrium spaces in the office buildings. Although, as a passive solution, it has a significant impact on the reduction of energy consumption, the control of inlet and outflow of air as well as the control of air current temperature has always been a challenge for architects...
متن کاملNumerical study of the effectiveness of atrium smoke exhaust systems
This paper discusses the numerical study of the effectiveness of atrium smoke exhaust systems. This study is part of a project initiated by ASHRAE and the National Research Council of Canada (NRCC), in which both physical and numerical techniques were employed to determine the effectiveness of such systems and to develop guidelines for their design. This paper presents numerical predictions obt...
متن کاملExperimental study and zone modeling of smoke movement in a model atrium
A series of atrium model tests were conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the smoke exhaust system in an atrium. The dimensions of the test compartment were 9 m × 6 m × 5.5 m height. The heat release rate ranged from 15 kW to 600 kW. The measured exhaust rate ranged from 1.94 to 5.13 kg/s. In this study, the experimental interface height between the smoke and cold layer is defined as th...

Building codes of almost all countries generally have a ‘size limitation of building and compartment’ which states a maximum floor area and cubical content for various uses and configuration. If the maximum compartment size is exceeded, there is usually provision for relaxation of the codes which will involve at least some of the following: a) occupancy levels, b) means of escape, c) sprinkler ...
متن کاملSolar Energy System Design of Ultralight Aircraft for Smoke Detection and Fire Alarm Proposes
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to design and evaluate the construction of a lightweight solar aircraft that is capable of flying continuously for 24 hours relying solely on solar energy. The required energy is absorbed during the day by solar panels, some is used directly for flight, and the excess energy is stored in the aircraft battery for overnight flight. The aircraft will then be ...
